Public Exhibition

Brochure

The Crown Estate consulted the local community on its plans during July and August 2010. The consultation involved:

  • Sending out 3,620 newsletters to local homes, which provided information on the proposed development, details of the public exhibitions, the project website and consultation questionnaire.
  • Holding four drop-in public exhibitions in the three main residential areas closest to the site. These were held at: Cheddon Fitzpaine Memorial Hall, 22 July; Priorswood Community Resource Centre, 23 July; Heathfield Community School, 26 July.
  • Setting up a project website - www.nerrols.co.uk - providing information on the public exhibitions, the proposals, and an opportunity to feedback online.

What you told us

Over 200 people attended our public exhibitions and 171 local residents responded to the consultation. The key themes highlighted during the consultation were:

  • New affordable housing and new family housing were identified as the most needed types of new housing for the area.
  • Local cycle routes and bus networks were highlighted as the transport infrastructure most in need of improvement to support the new development.
  • Public open spaces and play areas for young people were identified as the local facilities most in need of improvement.
  • Providing new local shops was the most popular choice for the new local centre. A pub, cafe or restaurant were also popular choices.
  • There was support for establishing a country park and wildlife areas.
  • Some concern about the development's impact on local traffic, In particular on the A3259/Yallands Hill to the Venture Way roundabout.
  • A number of residents flagged up existing problems with excessive speeding on Nerrols Drive and safety issues regarding any proposed new access roads into the new development.
  • Other concerns were raised about the future of the fun farm and the impact the development might have on local wildlife.
